About the Courses
The Chemistry Department in UCD offers three levels of the Bachelor of Science programme in Chemistry, of which the senior 1 course (Chem1) is the only one that requires a rigorous, full-time commitment and is typically taken in Year 3.
The course is designed to provide an in-depth, broad and rigorous introduction to modern chemistry and its applications, including the fundamental topics of modern chemistry. The course will develop a deep understanding of the chemical world, from the small molecule to the large-scale synthetic approaches and is accompanied by a rich laboratory component. This is the first step of the Bachelor programme. It is a two-year full-time course of study with one year of study for the Bachelor degree.
The Bachelor of Science programme in Chemistry at University College Dublin aims to equip its graduates with a detailed understanding of chemistry as a subject for their professional lives. The courses, which are based on a modular structure, prepare students to understand the physical, chemical and biological aspects of chemical engineering. Students will also be provided with the skill base to use these fundamental principles in the solving of real-world problems.
