Note: The installation procedure for the Stand-Alone Profiler is dependent on the licensing scheme for the entire installation package. Visual Studio 2008 Professional and Visual Studio 2008 Premium are the only supported Windows operating systems for the Stand-Alone Profiler.
1. Download and install the Stand-Alone Profiler from the appropriate section of the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 SDK download page for Stand-Alone Profiler.
2. If you intend to use the Stand-Alone Profiler, you must uninstall the following components in order to allow the Stand-Alone Profiler to run.
a. Visual Studio 2008 RTM (includes the Profiler feature)
b. Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (includes the Profiler feature)
3. Once the Stand-Alone Profiler is installed and the required components are uninstalled, the Stand-Alone Profiler can be run. The profiling results for the Stand-Alone Profiler are available as a report file.
4. If you do not intend to use the Stand-Alone Profiler, you must uninstall the Stand-Alone Profiler before proceeding with any other configuration or setup.
5. The Stand-Alone Profiler reports can be viewed using the Performance Explorer feature of the Visual Studio 2008 IDE. This feature can be accessed via Debug | Windows | Performance menu item.

The installation will start downloading and installing. The Stand-Alone Profiler will then start a visual wizard to help configure the installation and allow the creation of a shortcut to the Stand-Alone Profiler. Note: If you have any previous profiles installed, you will see them in the list. If the list does not contain the names of the previously installed profiles, use the refresh button to update the list.
